Lovington MainStreet will be awarding two (2) Behind the Façade Matching Grants for up to $10,000
Lovington MainStreet has now opened the Behind the Façade competitive matching grant for the Calendar Year 2018. Applications can be downloaded here, picked up at the Troy Harris Center, or submitted online.
One of Lovington MainStreet’s main strategies is to preserve the downtown historic character by encouraging renovations and building maintenance through Façade Improvement Grants and architectural design. LMS Vice President, Kallie Windsor, has stated “This grant has been a long time dream of mine. For years we’ve heard the community ask for help with interior renovations.” Now that dream is able to be fulfilled due to the fundraising efforts of Lovington MainStreet.
“We have a chance to truly make
Lovington better…”
Through our fundraising, we are able to award two $10,000 grants to building or business owners whom are a part of the MainStreet District and are interested in renovations that will allow businesses to move into the dilapidated and vacant buildings, while also preserving the historic integrity. Behind the Façade was created to assist building owners in accessibility improvements, energy conservation improvements, electrical work, fire alarm system; fire sprinkler system installation or upgrades, plumbing; including any needed water service improvements, heating, ventilation, or air conditioning, utility services upgrades, including water and sewer, roof repair, as well as hazard abatement. “We understand that historic buildings require a lot of love, and the costs associated with bringing a building up to code can prove to be difficult. We hope that this will encourage private investment in our community,” says Melinda Franco, board president.
Behind the Façade will be awarded on a competitive application basis. Grants awards will vary depending on applicant’s request. “I’m so happy to work for a board who understands the needs of downtown. We have a chance to truly make Lovington better,” says executive director Mara Salcido. In order to qualify for a Behind the Façade Matching Grant building/business owner must be located inside the Lovington MainStreet District.
